President Abelardo de la Espriella announces infrastructure commitments for La Guajira

President Abelardo de la Espriella met with Governor Jairo Aguilar Deluque and mayors from 15 municipalities in Riohacha to address territorial needs in La Guajira. The meeting focused on commitments regarding water, housing, energy, health, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Key financial announcements include 7.5 billion pesos for water supply solutions in Uribia, Alta Guajira, and Maicao, and 22 billion pesos for a pluvial drainage project in Riohacha. Additionally, 22 billion pesos have been allocated to complete 180 pending housing units in Fonseca.

Despite these infrastructure commitments, observers noted the absence of explicit focus on Sentence T-302 of 2017. This Constitutional Court ruling declared an unconstitutional state of affairs due to the violation of rights to water, food, and health for Wayuu children. Critics argue that the presidential visit lacked measurable commitments to address the structural crisis and high mortality rates among the Wayuu population, which the Court continues to monitor.
