Barahona receives new Guarocuya technical training school

President Luis Abinader inaugurated the Guarocuya Technical Professional Training School in Barahona, a new center managed by the National Institute of Technical Professional Training (Infotep). The facility, located in the former Hotel Guarocuya, underwent a 12 million peso renovation to transform it into a modern training hub for the tourism and hospitality sectors.

The school is designed to meet the growing labor demand driven by economic and tourism development in the Enriquillo Region, specifically supporting projects in Pedernales and the construction of a new tourist port in Barahona. The center features 32 guest rooms for practical training, along with professional kitchens, restaurants, laundry facilities, and recreational areas.

Training programs will focus on the tourism value chain, including hospitality, high-quality gastronomy, food and beverage management, and specialized tourism services. The administration will involve a collaboration between the rector of the Catholic Technological University of Barahona (Ucateba) and the General Manager of the Hotel Industry Development and Tourism Promotion Corporation (Corpohyels).
