Dominican Republic expands school infrastructure in Samaná and Santo Domingo East

The Dominican government is accelerating a series of school‑construction projects under the “Aulas 24/7‑365” plan. In Santo Domingo Este, the 22‑classroom Escuela Básica Cancino Adentro I, halted for 14 years, is slated for completion by August 2026, serving over 880 students. In San Luis, the aging Escuela Básica Gregorio Luperón is being demolished and rebuilt, with four modular classrooms to open in August and full reconstruction targeted for late 2024. In Las Terrenas, Samaná, the Ministry of Education inaugurated the new Escuela Básica Félix Sosa and a covered court for Liceo Luis Emilio Vanderhorst, projects that together benefit 1,032 students; the school cost RD$105,880,842 and the covered court RD$33,030,934. Additionally, authorities detailed the reconstruction of the Centro Educativo Carmela Shephard in Sánchez, which will include a seismic‑safe 22‑classroom building and a covered sports facility, with delivery expected in about 18 months. President Luis Abinader and Education Minister Luis Miguel De Camps have highlighted these investments as part of a broader effort to improve basic services, including water and transport, and to bolster Samaná’s tourism‑driven economy.
