President Ahmad al-Sharaa meets with families of missing persons

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and his wife, Latifa al-Daroubi, met with families of missing persons and victims of enforced disappearance at the People's Palace in Damascus. The meeting, attended by the head of the National Authority for Missing Persons, focused on accelerating mechanisms to determine the fate of the disappeared and providing psychological and legal support to the families.

This official engagement follows a United Nations General Assembly resolution, proposed by Damascus, to designate December 19 as an international day to honor women searching for missing persons. The National Authority for Missing Persons continues to face significant challenges, including managing tens of thousands of accumulated reports, accessing previous official records, and collecting genetic samples to identify remains.
