President António José Seguro meets former President Aníbal Cavaco Silva for lunch at Belém Palace

President António José Seguro hosted former President Aníbal Cavaco Silva for a lunch at the Belém Palace. An official note from the Presidency described the meeting as taking place in a climate of great cordiality and called it a “profícua troca de ideias”.

Seguro, who assumed the presidency on 9 March 2024 after Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has previously received former presidents António Ramalho Eanes (in early July) and Cavaco Silva, who had endorsed him in the second‑round presidential election of 8 February, which Seguro won with more than 66 % of the vote. In May, when Cavaco Silva was honoured by the European Parliament, Seguro praised his predecessor, saying Europe needs people with vision, determination and a sense of collective responsibility.
