President António José Seguro visits Vatican to meet Pope Leo XIV
Portuguese President António José Seguro has arrived in Rome for a two-day official visit to the Vatican. He is scheduled to meet with Pope Leo XIV on Thursday, September 24, to discuss international relations, human dignity, and the impact of artificial intelligence.
A primary objective of the visit is to renew the formal invitation for Pope Leo XIV to visit Portugal in 2027. This upcoming year marks significant milestones, including the 500th anniversary of the establishment of the Apostolic Nunciature in Portugal and the 110th anniversary of the Fátima apparitions.
During his stay, President Seguro will also meet with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States. His itinerary includes visits to the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica, as well as the inauguration of the sculpture ‘Encontro’ by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira in the Vatican Gardens.
