President António José Seguro to visit Vatican and Strasbourg

Portuguese President António José Seguro has announced two upcoming diplomatic visits. He will travel to the Vatican on September 23 and 24 to meet with Pope Leo XIV.

This meeting follows a formal invitation extended by the President for the Pope to visit Portugal in 2027. That proposed visit would coincide with the 110th anniversary of the Fátima apparitions and the 500th anniversary of the formalization of the apostolic nunciature in Portugal.

Following the Vatican trip, President Seguro will travel to Strasbourg, France, between September 29 and 30 to visit the Council of Europe. The visit is intended to mark the 50th anniversary of Portugal’s accession to the organization.
