President António José Seguro visits Cerveira Art Biennial

Portuguese President António José Seguro visited Vila Nova de Cerveira to attend the XXIV International Art Biennial of Cerveira (BIAC). During his visit, which included touring art exhibitions and meeting with local authorities, the President addressed the socio-economic challenges facing Portugal's interior and border regions.

Seguro called for increased state attention and investment to combat aging populations, depopulation, and the geographic distance from central decision-making hubs. He emphasized that a cohesive nation is measured by the vitality of all its territories rather than just its capital cities. He urged the central government to place more trust in local municipalities to address the specific needs of their communities.
