President Aoun calls for national unity and regional caution

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun addressed a cabinet session, emphasizing the need for political wisdom to protect the country from regional escalations. He expressed hope that regional tensions do not lead to an explosion, urging Lebanese officials to act with prudence to avoid the impact of regional instability on Lebanon’s fragile economy.

The President praised Speaker Nabih Berri for designating the Lebanese Army as a ‘red line’ and for promoting civil peace and dialogue. He also commended security forces for their efforts in combating terrorism, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling despite economic pressures, describing them as the ‘backbone of the state.’

In other matters, President Aoun supported the Minister of Health’s efforts against counterfeit medicines and congratulated him on his election to lead the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean. He also called for by-elections to fill the vacant Orthodox seat in West Bekaa following the death of MP Ghassan Skaff, calling it a constitutional necessity.

Regarding international relations, Aoun expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and noted ongoing communications regarding the return of Saudi tourists and flights to Lebanon. He also thanked Qatar for its assistance regarding Lebanon’s energy sector.
