President Asfura commemorates Copán's Maya legacy

Honduran President Nasry Asfura is leading the commemoration of the 1,600th anniversary of the arrival of K’inich Yax K’uk’ Mo’ in Copán. This event marks a significant milestone in the history of the ancient Maya city and the cultural heritage of Honduras.

During the commemorations, a cooperation agreement will be signed between Honduras and Japan. The agreement aims to strengthen joint efforts to preserve and enhance the archaeological and cultural value of Copán. This partnership recognizes Japan’s long-standing support for research and conservation efforts at the site.

The event is coordinated by the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History (IHAH), with support from the Honduran Institute of Tourism (IHT), the Secretariat of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of the Peoples of Honduras (SECAPPH), and the Municipal Mayor's Office of Copán Ruinas.
