President Bajram Begaj visits Arbëresh community in Italy

Albanian President Bajram Begaj visited the Arbëresh community in San Marzano di San Giuseppe, located in the province of Taranto, Italy. During the visit, Begaj was received with honors by local authorities and residents.

As part of the visit, the President laid a wreath at the bust of the national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu, to honor his legacy of resistance and freedom. In his address, Begaj praised the Arbëresh people for preserving their language, culture, customs, and traditions over several centuries while successfully integrating into Italian society.

Begaj described the Arbëresh community as a vital bridge between Albania and Italy, noting that they have linked the two nations for five centuries. He emphasized that the survival of their unique cultural and linguistic heritage relies on intergenerational transmission within families rather than just through laws or institutions.
