President Barrow inaugurates 104km of new roads in The Gambia
President Adama Barrow has officially inaugurated over 104 kilometres of new road infrastructure in The Gambia’s Upper River Region (URR) and Lower River Region (LRR). The government-funded projects aim to connect previously isolated communities to the national highway and the Trans-Gambia corridor.
In the Upper River Region, the 13.9-kilometre road connecting Basse Manneh Kunda, Demba Kunda, and Numuyel was opened to improve the movement of agricultural produce and essential services. In the Lower River Region, a 91-kilometre network in Kiang Kabada now links 29 communities to the national road network, including seven intersections with the South Bank Road and improved access toward the Senegalese border.
The new roads, built to international standards, include culverts and solar-powered streetlights. President Barrow stated that the infrastructure is intended to ensure development is shared across the country, reducing travel times and providing better access to healthcare, education, and markets for rural residents.
