President Barrow pledges funding for Gambian women and infrastructure

President Adama Barrow has announced significant financial commitments to support women's economic empowerment in The Gambia. During his ‘Meet the People Tour’, Barrow presented D1.5 million to 15 women’s groups in the North Bank Region through the Women’s Enterprise Fund. This funding, managed by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, is intended to assist small-scale businesses and income-generating activities to improve community livelihoods.

In the Central River Region North, the President pledged an additional D50 million for women, specifically targeting farmers and entrepreneurs. This new allocation brings the total government commitment to women to D100 million.

In addition to financial aid, the administration is advancing infrastructure projects. Contracts have been awarded for the final phase of electricity expansion to communities in CRR North that currently lack access to the national grid. Government officials also highlighted plans to revive the economy of Kaur through new port construction and improved road infrastructure.
