President Bassirou Diomaye Faye visits Touba ahead of Grand Magal

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye arrived in Touba on 26 July 2026 for a 48‑hour visit marking the traditional pre‑Magal ziara. He was received by Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, the khalîfa général of the Mouride brotherhood, before praying at the Grande Mosquée and paying respects at the mausoleum of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba.

During the stay the president lodged at the Khadim Rassoul palace opposite the mosque and hosted political and religious figures. On the following day he laid the first stone of a private hospital in Ngabou, part of his regional infrastructure programme. The visit coincides with preparations for the 131st Grand Magal, scheduled for 2 August, a major religious gathering overseen by Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, who continues to guide the Mouride community and promote social cohesion in Senegal.
