President Bola Tinubu orders heightened security measures amid Nigeria’s worsening insecurity
President Bola Tinubu directed the immediate reinforcement of security at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Plateau after a bandit attack killed two soldiers and a policeman. He tasked the institute’s director‑general with submitting a detailed action plan within 72 hours, calling the protection of the institute a "non‑negotiable" priority.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole defended the president’s handling of security, saying the administration has "political will in abundance" and noting the declared state of emergency and the replacement of former service chiefs. He warned that implementation gaps, not lack of will, hinder progress.
The Nigeria Society for Criminology urged Tinubu to intensify efforts to secure the country and improve welfare for security personnel, emphasizing the constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
Former Kaduna Governor Ahmed Makarfi called on Tinubu to declare a national emergency on insecurity and warned against politicising the crisis, describing the situation as approaching a state of war.
