President Bola Tinubu convenes top security chiefs amid worsening insecurity

President Bola Tinubu held a closed‑door security summit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, bringing together the National Security Adviser, defence minister, chief of defence staff, army chief, defence intelligence chief, directors of the DSS and NIA, the special adviser on homeland security and the Inspector‑General of Police. The two‑hour meeting reviewed the country’s deteriorating security situation and followed recent operations, including Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which used aircraft and joint task‑force support to disrupt a large terrorist convoy in Zamfara and Katsina and to neutralise a bandit commander.

In related remarks, the National Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Dr Dickson Ameh Akoh, urged Tinubu to pass the Peace Corps Establishment Bill and integrate the corps’ 187,000 members into the national security architecture for intelligence gathering and non‑kinetic tasks. Tinubu also addressed civil‑society groups at a summit in Lagos, urging them to align with the “Nigeria First” agenda, prioritize national interests, and avoid foreign funding that could compromise sovereignty while supporting development goals such as food security, job creation, and climate‑resilient agriculture.
