President Daniel Chapo meets Congolese Ambassador and addresses constitutional justice

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo met with Constant Serge Bounda, the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of the Congo, in Maputo. During the meeting, Bounda, who is transitioning to the role of Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the historical ties between the two nations. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and preparing for a “Great Mixed Commission” and subsequent consultations, which are expected to lead to an official visit by Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso to Mozambique.

Bounda also requested Mozambique’s support for the Republic of the Congo’s candidacy for the United Nations Security Council for the 2030-2031 term, citing Mozambique’s recent experience in the body.

Separately, President Chapo addressed the International Seminar on “Constitutional Justice and Global Rule of Law” in Maputo. He advocated for a constitution that serves as a practical tool for social transformation rather than just a formal document. Chapo emphasized that state institutions must be strong and accountable to ensure that fundamental rights are protected from arbitrary power and effectively integrated into the daily lives of citizens.
