Colombia's De la Espriella closes peace dialogues and rejects criminal negotiations
The Colombian government, led by President Abelardo de la Espriella, has implemented a major shift in security and peace policy. Following Castillo’s expressed willingness to surrender, De la Espriella ordered the Ministries of Defense and Justice to coordinate his surrender within one week, emphasizing that no special concessions or legal shortcuts will be granted. The government maintains that any surrender must strictly follow existing legal frameworks, prioritize victims' rights, and occur alongside an ongoing military offensive.
Additionally, the President announced new measures regarding public order on university campuses. He stated that university autonomy does not exempt campuses from the law or constitutional authority. A new national protocol will be established to allow police intervention in universities in cases of vandalism, terrorism, or violence, aiming to prevent campuses from becoming sanctuaries for illegal activities.
