President Droupadi Murmu's Odisha visit postponed due to cyclone threat

Indian President Droupadi Murmu's scheduled two-day visit to Odisha has been postponed by one week due to a potential cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal. Originally set for October 28 and 29, the visit to Mayurbhanj district is now rescheduled for November 4 and 5.

The President is expected to visit her home region of Rairangpur, including the Maa Kichakeswari Temple in Bahalda, the Rairangpur Sub-divisional Hospital, and the Iron College Multi-Skill Development Center. Local administration and police are currently coordinating security and logistics for the revised dates.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has increased its preparedness to handle the approaching weather system. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari stated that the state is monitoring the low-pressure area near the Andaman Islands, which is expected to intensify. The cyclone is projected to potentially make landfall between Gopalpur in Odisha and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh around October 28.
