Egypt: President el-Sisi addresses economic shocks and regional instability

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held an extensive meeting at the Strategic Command headquarters in the New Administrative Capital with government ministers, governors, military and police leaders, and community representatives. During the session, the President addressed several critical national and regional challenges.

On the economic front, el-Sisi noted that Egypt has faced successive shocks since 2020, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the conflict in Gaza. He highlighted that regional instability has resulted in a loss of approximately $20 billion in Suez Canal revenues. He also remarked that the economic contraction following the events of 2011 to 2013 could require up to 15 years for full recovery.

Regarding foreign policy, the President reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to the two-state solution as the only path to stability in the Middle East and emphasized the central importance of the Palestinian cause. He also underscored Egypt's support for the security of the Arabian Gulf and the necessity of maintaining freedom of navigation in maritime corridors.

Domestically, el-Sisi emphasized the importance of national unity and public awareness as a defense against misinformation and attempts to destabilize the state. He directed officials to improve public services and urged institutions to work collectively to manage state resources more efficiently.
