President el-Sisi meets UN Secretary-General Guterres at BRICS Summit
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India. During the meeting, President el-Sisi expressed Egypt's support for UN reform initiatives, specifically those aimed at streamlining spending, reviewing mandates, and enhancing coordination between UN agencies.
Discussions also covered critical regional issues. President el-Sisi emphasized that lasting peace in the Middle East requires a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause based on international legitimacy. He highlighted Egypt's ongoing mediation efforts regarding the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and called on the international community to ensure sufficient humanitarian aid reaches the Gaza Strip.
Regarding the crisis in Sudan, the President stated that any threat to the security, unity, and sovereignty of Sudan is a ‘red line’ for Egypt. Secretary-General Guterres thanked President el-Sisi for Egypt's support during his tenure and praised the country's role in promoting dialogue, peace, and stability across Africa and the Middle East.
