President el-Sisi issues directives on food security and real estate rights

During a ceremony marking the Prophet's Birthday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi issued several directives aimed at improving public services and protecting citizen rights. Key mandates include the expansion of government sales outlets, with a requirement to establish at least one outlet in every district to ensure the availability of essential goods at affordable prices.

In the utility sector, the President instructed the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy to oversee electricity billing more strictly to prevent arbitrary estimations and to facilitate the payment of arrears. Regarding the real estate sector, el-Sisi emphasized the necessity of respecting contracts, meeting delivery deadlines for housing units, and ensuring the completion of infrastructure and utilities. He warned that legal action would be taken against developers who fail to fulfill their contractual obligations.

In response to these directives, members of the House of Representatives have called for increased oversight. Specifically, the Housing and Utilities Committee suggested creating a digital platform to monitor construction progress and developer compliance, alongside potential financial mechanisms to safeguard citizen funds in real estate projects.
