President Erdoğan criticizes UN structure at Istanbul Mediation Conference
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan criticized the current structure of the United Nations during a video message sent to the 9th Istanbul Mediation Conference. He argued that a system where the will of more than 190 countries is dependent on the discretion of five countries is neither fair nor capable of establishing full trust.
Erdoğan stated that Turkey rejects an international political approach built on mistrust. He emphasized Turkey's commitment to diplomacy even during periods of rising global tension and conflict, citing the country's mediation efforts in prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine, as well as various initiatives across Africa.
Addressing the global landscape, the President noted that millions of people in crisis regions such as Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan have placed their hopes in the United Nations, only to face deep disappointment. He reaffirmed Turkey's stance on seeking diplomatic paths to peace even in the most difficult disputes.
