Erdoğan on Ahbap probe, disinformation after Feb 6 quake
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the 2nd Communication Council (Şura) held at the ATO Congresium in Ankara. He warned that disinformation is a national‑security issue and noted that Turkey faced intense information attacks during the COVID‑19 pandemic, forest‑fire emergencies and the February 6, 2023, earthquakes.
Erdoğan said those who exploited the earthquake through the Ahbap Association are being held accountable, adding that “the law will be applied as needed.” He referenced a criminal investigation that detained 54 suspects – including Ahbap founder Haluk Levent and Oğuzhan Uğur – with 28 arrests and asset seizures.
The council gathered 425 experts from academia, media, civil society and the private sector to discuss topics such as artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty and crisis communication.
