Turkey opens five new museums at Topkapı Palace

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has inaugurated five new museums within the Darphane-i Amire complex at Topkapı Palace in Istanbul. Following a seven-year restoration project, the complex now spans 17,000 square meters and includes 46 halls across seven buildings.

The new museums will display 10,500 rare artifacts from the Topkapı Palace collection, including a collection of over 2,000 calligraphy works, a map museum featuring approximately 200 Ottoman-era maps, and an arms museum containing 2,500 pieces of military equipment such as swords, shields, and armor. Additionally, two buildings will serve as art galleries for exhibitions and conferences.

During the ceremony, Erdoğan criticized past cultural policies, alleging that historical sites were mismanaged and precious manuscripts were sold abroad. He also announced upcoming restoration projects for the Edirne Palace to further preserve Turkey’s cultural heritage.
