President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. pursues trade deals in Canada and Singapore

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited Vancouver on 2 July, where Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a strategic partnership aimed at concluding a Canada‑Philippines free‑trade agreement by the end of 2026. Officials said the deal could raise bilateral trade by about 200 % by 2035, add roughly $2 billion to Canada’s GDP and create around 14,000 jobs, especially in forest products and agriculture.

From 14‑16 July Marcos will travel to Singapore for a two‑day working visit. He is scheduled to meet Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, discuss expanding cooperation on trade, investment, the environment and health, and reaffirm ASEAN centrality. The agenda includes a private round‑table with the Milken Institute and a speech by First Lady Liza Araneta‑Marcos at the Global Economic Cooperation East Summit. The trip marks Marcos’s 45th overseas journey and his fourth visit to Singapore since taking office in 2022.
