Azerbaijan reviews production of SALVO and KAYRA unmanned naval systems
President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Azerbaijani Navy to review advancements in unmanned maritime technology. The visit included an inspection of a joint production facility where the country is manufacturing autonomous naval systems.
The production is a collaboration between the MIRAS Military-Industrial Company LLC, operating under the Ministry of Defense, and the Turkish DEARSAN Shipyard JSC. The facility focuses on two primary platforms: the SALVO armed unmanned surface vessel (AUSV) and the KAYRA kamikaze unmanned surface vessel (KUSV).
The SALVO is a multi-purpose vessel capable of speeds between 45 and 60 knots with a range of 400 nautical miles. It is designed for surveillance, reconnaissance, and maritime interdiction, and can be equipped with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles. The KAYRA serves as a maritime kamikaze drone.
This shift toward local production signifies Azerbaijan’s move toward domestic manufacturing and maintenance of military equipment, specifically to protect maritime energy infrastructure in the Caspian Sea.
