President Irfaan Ali proposes new agricultural projects in Kuru Kuru

President Irfaan Ali has proposed several agricultural initiatives to residents of Kuru Kuru along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway to boost local income and land utility. The proposed projects include the establishment of shade houses for high-demand crops with short turnover periods, stingless bee honey production, and livestock farming.

Ali emphasized the efficiency of modern farming, noting that shade houses can generate higher earnings on smaller plots of land compared to traditional methods. He suggested that farmers use shade houses for crops like peppers, celery, and shallots, while utilizing larger acreage for permanent crops such as coconut and provisions.

To support these efforts, the government intends to work with the Guyana Marketing Corporation and the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association to secure markets for produce. Additionally, the President encouraged the cultivation of exotic and local fruits, such as cherry and guava, to meet the demands of local manufacturers like Demerara Distillers Limited.
