President Jennifer Simons promotes unity at Heritage Month symposium
President Jennifer Simons emphasized unity and brotherhood during the One Heritage Policy 2026 national symposium in Paramaribo. The event, themed ‘From shared history to sustainable heritage policy’, aimed to increase awareness of Suriname’s diverse history as a foundation for national cohesion.
During her speech, the President highlighted that while Suriname is diverse, true unity requires active coexistence. She expressed a desire to expand Heritage Month celebrations in the future, potentially including international participation.
Writer Cynthia McLeod was honored during the symposium for her long-standing commitment to documenting Surinamese history. She received the ‘Wi Gudu-Ons Erfgoed’ recognition from the presidential Heritage Month working group.
