President Karol Nawrocki honors historian and addresses Volhynia victims' funeral

President Karol Nawrocki addressed two significant events involving Polish history and memory. In a letter to participants of the funeral of Professor Tomasz Szarota in Warsaw, Nawrocki praised the historian as one of Poland’s most distinguished researchers of 20th-century history, specifically noting his expertise on World War II and the German occupation.

Separately, Nawrocki issued a statement regarding the funeral of the remains of 55 Polish victims of the Volhynia massacre in Ostrówki, Ukraine. The ceremony, held on the 83rd anniversary of the 1943 tragedy, included clergy from both Catholic and Orthodox churches. Nawrocki emphasized that Poland will continue to seek proper burials and commemoration for citizens killed by the OUN-UPA. He expressed approval for the Ukrainian authorities' consent to conduct further exhumations and warned against those following the tradition of 'Banderism' or nationalist collaboration, describing such stances as signs of hostility toward Poland.
