President Karol Nawrocki vetoes fast-track divorce reform
President Karol Nawrocki has exercised his right to veto a legislative amendment aimed at reforming and streamlining divorce procedures in Poland. The proposed reform sought to introduce a ‘fast-track’ divorce process specifically for childless couples who agree to end their marriage without assigning fault.
The goal of the legislation was to reduce the burden on family courts and prevent couples from waiting months for court hearings. However, the President blocked the bill, citing the need to protect the constitutional institution of marriage and the stability of the family. He argued against what conservative circles describe as ‘divorce on demand.’
The veto has sparked intense political debate, leading to sharp exchanges between representatives of the ruling and opposition parties regarding the President's stance on social issues and his approach to citizens with differing views.
