President Kast and Defense Minister attend ENADE 2026 in Chile

Chilean President José Antonio Kast and Defense Minister Fernando Barros participated in the 2026 National Business Meeting (ENADE). During the event, President Kast defended his administration's economic management, highlighting efforts to reduce taxes, contain the fiscal deficit, and reactivate investment by unblocking projects.

Minister Barros emphasized that defense investment is a key driver for national development. He noted that defense spending contributes to sovereignty, territorial connectivity, and economic opportunities, particularly in strategic areas. He specifically highlighted the need to strengthen the national presence and productive activities in the southern austral zone, including Tierra del Fuego and Villa O’Higgins, to foster tourism, entrepreneurship, and employment.

President Kast's appearance also drew social media attention following an unsuccessful attempt to close his speech with a joke, which resulted in silence from the audience.
