President Kast leads Chilean Navy combat demonstrations in Magellan Strait

President José Antonio Kast led a demonstration of the Chilean Navy's operational and combat capabilities in the Magellan Strait during Navy Day. The exercises, conducted within the Austral Operations Theater, showcased the integration of surface vessels, submarines, naval aviation, and Marine Infantry.

Key maneuvers included a conventional submarine attack exercise designed to demonstrate strategic deterrence, and a Maritime Interdiction Operation (MIO) on the tugboat ‘Lientur’ involving fast-rope insertion from an aircraft. Additionally, a replenishment at sea (RAS) maneuver was performed with the tanker ‘Araucano’ to demonstrate the transfer of fuel and supplies while underway.

The event took place in the strategically significant Magellan Strait, which connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and serves as a gateway to the Drake Passage and Antarctica. The President was transported via Super Puma helicopter between Punta Arenas and the frigate ‘Prat’ to observe the integrated naval operations.
