President Lai Ching-te campaigns for Tsai Yi-yu in Chiayi

President Lai Ching-te traveled to Chiayi to support Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Tsai Yi-yu during the opening of a joint campaign headquarters for the Chiayi County magistrate and Puzi mayoral races.

During his speech, President Lai praised Tsai's professional background as a National Taiwan University law graduate and his ability to secure over NT$10 billion in central government funding for local infrastructure, including water management and transportation. Lai emphasized that Chiayi County has transitioned from an agricultural hub to an agro-industrial and technological center, and expressed a desire to further promote semiconductor and drone industries.

Lai also made a remark regarding recent controversies surrounding academic credentials, stating, “There are quite a few people lately whose academic credentials are not quite correct,” which drew laughter from the crowd. Additionally, he discussed government economic policies, mentioning planned increases in subsidies for elderly farmers and children, as well as a proposed “AI dividend” of NT$10,000 per person.
