President Laura Fernández Rejects Dictatorship Claims, While Mexico's Sheinbaum Emphasizes Due Process

Costa Rica's President Laura Fernández told reporters she has no interest in establishing a dictatorship and challenged Prosecutor General Carlo Díaz to present a single piece of evidence of any constitutional breach at the National Council meeting on July 20. She said the government’s aim is to make public institutions serve citizens effectively, adding, “No tengo ningún interés de ser dictadora.”

Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum said the federal government will not protect any public official who commits a crime, referring to the detention of former mayor Tania Flores Guerra. She urged waiting for the investigation’s results, reiterated a policy of “zero impunity,” and stressed that legal action will be taken regardless of political affiliation, emphasizing due process and the rule of law.
