President Lee addresses agricultural land reforms and North Korea-US diplomacy

President Lee Jae-myung addressed key domestic and international issues during a press conference at the Blue House on September 18.

Regarding domestic policy, Lee defended the ongoing comprehensive survey of agricultural land, stating the initiative aims to identify real estate speculation where land is purchased under the guise of farming but used for other purposes. He dismissed claims that the government intends to forcibly seize land from struggling farmers, clarifying that the survey is a foundational step to understand land usage and provide support where needed. Lee criticized opponents of the reform for spreading misinformation to protect speculative interests.

On the international stage, Lee addressed concerns regarding South Korea being sidelined in potential North Korea-United States dialogues. He emphasized that while South Korea might not be at the center of initial discussions, the government plays a vital role in facilitating cooperation to ensure long-term stability on the Korean Peninsula. Lee noted that he is actively encouraging U.S. President Donald Trump to engage in dialogue and is performing preparatory coordination to support such developments.
