President Lee Jae-myung defends relationship with Jung Chung-rae

President Lee Jae-myung has directly responded to online criticism regarding his recent four-hour dinner meeting with former Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae at the Blue House. Addressing a social media post that suggested the President was ‘bullying’ Jung, Lee clarified that the meeting was requested by Jung following the party convention and a period of hospitalization.

Lee described Jung as a ‘comrade’ who fought alongside him through ‘the era of darkness and death and the night of insurrection.’ He urged the public not to misinterpret their relationship, stating that Jung is an individual with his own thoughts and judgment, and that neither party was being coerced or mistreated.

Jung Chung-rae responded to the President’s remarks via Facebook, echoing a call for unity among supporters of past leaders including Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, Moon Jae-in, and Lee Jae-myung. The exchange appears to signal an effort to consolidate the Democratic Party's base following internal tensions.
