President Lee Jae-myung's approval hits record low of 34.9%
President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating has reached its lowest point since taking office, according to a recent poll by the Korean Society Opinion Institute (KSOI). The survey, conducted between October 12 and 13 among 1,001 voters, showed a 3.6 percentage point drop in positive evaluations to 34.9%, while negative evaluations rose to 58.8%.
Key reasons cited for the decline include concerns over diplomacy and security, economic recovery, and national unity. Specific issues mentioned include real estate policies, controversies regarding cabinet appointments, judicial conflicts involving Supreme Court nominee candidates, and concerns over public safety following discussions on abolishing the prosecution service.
Geographically, negative evaluations exceeded positive ones in almost all regions, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Busan, with the exception of the Jeonnam and Gwangju areas. In terms of political party support, the People Power Party stood at 37.1% and the Democratic Party of Korea at 34.9%, a gap within the margin of error.
