President Lee meets major business leaders to discuss AI mega projects
President Lee Jae-myung is conducting a series of private meetings with leaders of South Korea’s major business groups to coordinate on the government’s ‘three mega projects.’ Following a recent meeting with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, the President is scheduled to meet with Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Euisun Chung and Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong to discuss industrial strategy.
The core focus of these discussions involves the successful implementation of three major initiatives: establishing a semiconductor cluster in the Honam region, fostering physical AI, and expanding AI data center infrastructure. These projects involve massive investments, with Samsung and SK alone committing over 4,000 trillion won.
Beyond domestic infrastructure, the meetings are expected to address international trade pressures, particularly regarding semiconductor investment demands from the United States. Business leaders are also seeking dialogue on domestic regulatory challenges, such as labor laws, to ensure a stable environment for executing these large-scale technological investments.
