President Lee pledges state responsibility to expand opportunities for youth

President Lee Jae-myung addressed the challenges facing the youth generation during the ‘Youth Budget Unboxing 2027’ event held at the Blue House. He noted that in a low-growth society, failure is no longer seen as a stepping stone to success but rather as a “shortcut to the abyss,” causing intense anxiety among young people regarding debt and stability.

Lee emphasized that the state has a responsibility to expand economic opportunities rather than simply demanding more effort from the youth. He stated that the government’s primary role is to grow the economic pie and transition from downward to upward growth trends.

Furthermore, the President urged public officials to move away from supplier-centered thinking and instead develop “best-selling policies” that are consumer-centric and directly address the needs of young citizens. The event, which featured working-level officials rather than ministers to bridge the gap with the younger generation, precedes the official announcement of the 2027 government budget.
