Lee Jae Myung begins diplomatic tour of U.S. and Mexico

In New York, President Lee is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the UN General Assembly on September 22. His address will focus on UN reform and his administration’s vision for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula. Following the U.S. leg, President Lee will travel to Mexico for a state visit at the invitation of President Claudia Sheinbaum. This marks the first state visit by a South Korean leader to Mexico in 16 years. The summit aims to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and supply chains, specifically regarding minerals and crude oil. Discussions will also cover advanced industries such as AI, digital technology, aerospace, and defense, including potential South Korean participation in Mexico’s military modernization. Additionally, the visit seeks to expand cultural cooperation, utilizing Mexico as a strategic platform for the expansion of K-content in Latin America.
