Consejo Nacional de la Magistratura preselects 88 candidates for Supreme Court

The National Magistracy Council (CNM) has advanced the selection process for new members of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) in the Dominican Republic. During a session presided over by Vice President Raquel Peña, the Council reviewed candidate files and preselected 88 applicants, after excluding two from the original 90 registered candidates. The pool of 90 applicants included 38 women and 52 men.

This selection process aims to fill six total vacancies in the Supreme Court of Justice. The process follows a performance evaluation that recently resulted in the confirmation of five current magistrates for seven-year terms. The upcoming selection will also determine a new president for the high court following the conclusion of Luis Henry Molina’s term.

Following the formal publication of the preselected list on September 18, 2026, the public will have a three-day period to submit objections or concerns regarding any of the 88 candidates.
