President Luis Abinader Honors Teachers with 2026 Medalla al Mérito Magisterial

President Luis Abinader presided over the ceremony at the Salón Las Cariátides of the Palacio Nacional in Santo Domingo, presenting the Medalla al Mérito Magisterial 2026 to a group of distinguished Dominican educators. The highest honor, the Premio al Honor Pedro Henríquez Ureña (gold medal), was awarded to Arquímedes Jerez de la Cruz of the Cotuí region. Silver and bronze medals were given to teachers Yahaira Constanza Rosario de Hernández and Nathalie Elianna García García, both from the San Francisco de Macorís Regional 07. The event also recognized three Dominican teachers residing in the United States and honored Dr. Nelson José Abreu Ventura of the Universidad Católica Nordestana for his contributions to higher‑education teaching.

Education Minister Luis Miguel De Camps stressed that recognizing teachers is essential for strengthening the country’s future, noting ongoing reforms, curriculum updates, and the integration of STEM and artificial‑intelligence tools in classrooms. The ceremony highlighted broader government efforts to improve the national education system and support the teaching profession.
