Brazil President Lula unveils major education, health and housing investments

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva inaugurated seven new campuses of the Federal Institute of São Paulo (IFSP) with an investment of R$163.9 million, part of a wider rollout of ten new federal institute campuses across the country totaling about R$206.6 million and creating roughly 155,000 new study slots.

At the same ceremony the government announced a health package worth R$464.8 million, including primary‑care upgrades, mobile health units, a new oncology centre in Pernambuco and a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the delivery of 1,600 homes under the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program.

Minister Paulo Pereira also presented measures for micro‑entrepreneurs, branding Lula as “the president of entrepreneurs”. The initiatives include the Desenrola MEI debt‑renegotiation scheme, an increase of the MEI annual revenue ceiling to R$110,000 in 2027 and R$140,000 in 2028, and an expansion of the Contrata+Brasil platform to broaden public‑sector contracts for small businesses.
