Ghana's Mahama advances Accra Reset agenda at UN General Assembly

President John Dramani Mahama has hosted a high-level event in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly to advance the ‘Accra Reset’ initiative. The program brought together global leaders, including Kenyan President William Ruto and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, to assess progress on the initiative one year after its launch.

A central component of the event was the release of the High-Level Panel Report, ‘A Sovereign Future for Health.’ The report advocates for increased self-reliance in healthcare across the Global South, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign aid and ensure developing nations have direct control over their health priorities and funding.

President Mahama also addressed the need for economic reform and youth opportunity, emphasizing that African nations must strengthen their institutions and financing capabilities to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063. He noted that Ghana intends to carry the Accra Reset agenda into the African Union’s policy discussions when the country assumes the AU chairmanship in January 2027.
