President Mahama pledges transfer of UG Medical Centre to University of Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama announced that the management of the University of Ghana Medical Centre will be moved from the Ministry of Health to the University of Ghana. A committee’s report on the transfer has been submitted and a transition roadmap will be presented for execution.

At the second session of the July Congregation, 1,884 students graduated, including 157 PhDs and 1,429 master’s degrees. Mahama highlighted the “No‑Fee‑Stress” initiative aimed at ensuring that capable Ghanaian students can begin university without financial barriers. He praised the graduates, noting that his chief of staff, Julius Debrah, was among them.

Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo said the university remains a leading institution in Ghana and West Africa and is positioned among the top 13 African universities in the QS World University Rankings 2027.
