President Marcos Jr. inaugurates Sazgar Philippines EV plant
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited and inaugurated the Sazgar Philippines Inc. manufacturing and assembly plant in Biñan, Laguna. The facility, which is 60 percent Filipino-owned, serves as the company’s first manufacturing site outside of Pakistan and is intended to act as a primary hub for Southeast Asia.
The plant has an annual assembly capacity of approximately 12,000 three-wheeled vehicles. The initial production mix consists of 60 percent electric models and 40 percent internal combustion engine models. The electric tricycles are capable of traveling between 100 and 210 kilometers on a single charge.
During the visit, President Marcos Jr. urged Sazgar to expand its use of locally manufactured components, such as batteries, glass, upholstery, and lubricants, to strengthen the domestic supply chain. He noted that the investment supports the government’s goal of achieving a 50 percent electric vehicle share in the national fleet by 2040 and qualifies under the Strategic Investment Priority Plan.
