President Miguel Díaz-Canel Leads ALBA Assembly, Tours Havana Economy

The IV Continental ALBA Movements Assembly opened in Havana, gathering more than 150 delegates from over 25 countries. Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel attended the opening alongside Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and other senior officials. The forum seeks to coordinate left‑leaning and popular movements across Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States, addressing issues such as U.S. policy, the resurgence of the Monroe Doctrine, and solidarity with Palestine, Burkina Faso and Brazil.

On the same day, President Díaz‑Canel toured key economic sites in the capital, including the state‑run soap manufacturer Suchel Cetro. He met with director Alexander Puig Varona and other managers to discuss strategies for financial recapitalisation, renewable‑energy projects, electric mobility and the application of artificial intelligence in industry. The visits underline Cuba’s push for greater economic autonomy and ongoing reforms.
