Bangladesh President calls for stronger ties with Pakistan
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for the strengthening of bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Pakistan, focusing on trade, investment, education, and air connectivity. During a meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider at Bangabhaban, the President emphasized the importance of expanding economic activities to benefit both nations.
Key discussion points included balancing trade by exploring more exports from Bangladesh, such as ceramics, beverages, agricultural products, and pharmaceuticals, alongside Pakistani imports like garments and cotton yarn. The High Commissioner announced that a trade fair featuring Pakistani products will be held in Dhaka this October and suggested a reciprocal fair in Pakistan.
Additionally, the two sides discussed enhancing cooperation in higher education—specifically in science, engineering, and medical fields—and exploring joint ventures in manufacturing sports equipment. The High Commissioner also noted that the resumption of direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi is positively impacting medical tourism and people-to-people contact.
