President Museveni to preside over Tooro King coronation

President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled to preside over the coronation and enthronement of the 14th Omukama of Tooro, Rukirabasaija Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I. The ceremony will take place on September 29, 2026, at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal.

Minister of State for Gender and Culture, Mary Kuteesa Kamuli, confirmed that the President accepted the invitation to serve as the Chief Guest. The event follows the endorsement of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the successor to the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed away on August 27, 2026.

The coronation proceedings are expected to include a church service at St John’s Cathedral followed by traditional royal rituals. Preparations for the event include a budget of Shs925 million, with activities beginning as early as September 28 as the King-designate moves to Karuziika Palace.
